Soup has held a cherished place in human history, it’s a nourishing, hot meal that satisfies our hunger and sustains communities around the globe. From ancient times to the present, people of all socioeconomic backgrounds have relied on this humble, versatile dish that offers a wholesome, nutritious, warm, and comforting meal. Soup earns our deep appreciation for its timeless contribution to mankind.
We’re friends of St. Andrew or just “Friends” to our volunteers, guests and the community. We’re a Soup Kitchen on Colfax Avenue in the heart of Old Downtown Aurora. Friends is a Queen of Peace Parish Ministry, owned and operated by the parish since 1986. For 40 years, we’ve served the most vulnerable people on East Colfax Avenue.
Yet friends is much more than a meal…
Encounter, listen, accompany, encourage…
That’s what Friends do!
At Friends…we feed body and soul
✴ A meal prepared with love
Mother Teresa said, “Do small things with great love.” That’s what we do at Friends. We serve hot meals 5 days a week and each is made and served with love. In addition to hot soup, we serve hot and cold sandwiches and other goodies – a bag lunch that’s a $14 retail value.
✴ All are welcome
Friends is inclusive, no one is rejected that approaches us with a spirit of peace and good will. Colfax Avenue is the arterial that brings guests from as far away as Downtown Denver to the west and the plains to the east.
✴ A persistent presence
Friends has been a trusted member of the East Colfax community for 40 years. We don’t preach or proselytize. Our actions speak louder than our words. Ours is a practice of presence, a ministry of hospitality. We strive to be a light in a world often shrouded in darkness.
